where to begin

After roughly a month of being on the road, I am back in SLC.. until Friday.

There was the Outdoor Retailer Winter Show, SIA in Denver, 5 Point Film Festival “5,5,5″ presentation in Carbondale, CO, and a ski filming trip to Sicily, Italy. Also in there were a few writing assignments for Powder Magazine and National Geographic. Below are a few items to recap the past few weeks. I enjoyed hosting live for SIA Snow Show again as well as presenting a Mountain Story to the audience at the 5 POINT FILM Festival gathering.. and really love these opportunities to mix it up in different forums.

Looking forward to a few more travel adventures over the next few months. It was an incredible experience to explore more of Italy while filming for Salomon Freeski TV on location on Mt Etna. The Sweetgrass Productions guys- Nick Waggoner & Zac Ramras- did a great job as always and it was nice to get a chance to work with talented photog, Grant Gunderson. Due to story assignments for this trip, I am posting just a few quick photos below.

Nick Waggoner and Zac Ramras spent the better part of two years on foot, horseback, and ski-skins traveling between some of South America’s most desolate mountains. The end product of their effort, Solitaire, is among the most stunning ski films ever shot. The film features 31 different skiers and snowboarders, two of whom, Arne Backstrom and Kip Garre, passed away during production. Solitaire has been selected for the Banff and Telluride Mountainfilm festivals, and won the IF3 festival award for best cineomatography. 55 Minutes

a start to 2012..

Made it up to Jackson for New Years. It was a relief and pure joy to get in the first real powder turns of the season with some great friends..new and old..on-piste and off.

Third in Powder line with new Jackson pal, Pat “Tweece” McDermott. Yahoo!

Also, just started up a new Facebook page in an effort to separate out to a specific place where I can post trip photos, stories, and travel tidbits, rather than loading up on my personal page. Below is the link:

canada, eh

Since returning from Antarctica, I had a few days in SLC before heading back out the door. First stop was Ogden, UT for the Salomon Sales Meetings, then onto Whistler, British Columbia with our International Team, and then wrapping up in Jackson, WY for more ski testing and marketing meetings.

Our Mountain Collective is an incredible group and great things are being accomplished. It is daily inspiration to be in the midst of such great talent.. and really good people. It definitely makes you look at life with heightened appreciation and with increased motivation/ambition. My talks with teammate, and in many ways our team leader, Mike Douglas, always get me excited to reach my full potential as a person and as an athlete. The comradery in our group is special.

It’s been dry in the Wasatch since I got home a few of days ago but  we’ve gotten in a couple of touring adventures up high that have proven photo worthy (see below). One ski tour up on Cardiff Ridge and the other a ski off the summit of Pfeifferhorn.

Also excited to announce the release of our new women’s Rocker ski which I am honored to have named “The Rockette”. It made it’s on snow North American debut at Snowbasin in early December. We’ll be visiting some local areas with product. Stay tuned to see if we will be in your hood.
